Jesus grows up

The Spirit of the Lord came upon the prophet Isaiah and he prophesied that a child was to be born and He would be called, "Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace". Israel waited for hundreds of years for the promised Messiah. Then, when the time was just right, the Virgin Mary gave birth to the Messiah, Jesus, in a stable in Bethlehem.

Jesus was flesh and blood and grew up just like every little boy and girl. When Jesus was twelve years old the family went to Jerusalem for the Passover feast. Jesus disappeared and His mother and Joseph couldn't find Him anywhere. After three days they found Jesus in the Temple, amazing the doctors of religion with His understanding of the things of God.

When Jesus was about thirty years old He went to the Jordan river to be baptized by John the Baptist. When Jesus was baptized, the heavens were opened and the Holy Spirit came down on Him like a dove. Just then a voice from Heaven said, "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased". Jesus was then led by the Holy Spirit into the desert where He fasted and prayed for forty days and nights. The Devil waited until Jesus was weak from hunger. Then he came to tempt Jesus.

He first told Jesus to turn the stones into bread. Then he told Jesus to jump off the highest part of the Temple and let the angels catch Him. The Devil then showed Jesus all the Kingdoms of the world and said he would give them to Jesus if He would worship him. Jesus did not obey the Devil and each time He was tempted, He gave the Devil a verse out of the Bible to show the Devil that only God's Word must be obeyed. The Devil then went away and the angels came and took care of Jesus. Jesus showed us that the Word of God is the Sword that we must use if we want to beat the Devil and chase him away.
